It ultimately doesn't matter whose sad, unlucky face gets slapped on a toxic gatekeeping argument advocating for WotC to cater to true hardcore fans rather than "filthy casuals" and that claims that catering to casuals is somehow ruining D&D.

I never called casuals filthy or say only hardcore fans should be catered too, that is a complete strawman.

I'm argueing they should put more effort into setting books so as not to alienate superfans and fans, because those groups are super important to creating the community and the buzz and keeping casuals from getting board and losing interest.

None of that is gate keeping casuals, it's the exact opposite, you use the superfans and fans to get the casuals and supercasuals, because they build hype, buy all kinds of products, and mentor casuals.

Asking WotC to do a better job keeping setting fans and superfans happy isn't gatekeeping, it's needed for getting the casuals.

Explain what is toxic about wanting WotC to do a better job with settings?

None of that us clear at all, there is no evidence of anything you've said.

He's making massive changes at Twitter, you have to expect a pain period, we won't really be able judge for at least 5 years.
And that iceberg was just offering the Titanic a radical new structural design! Just you wait, it'll be the greatest, most successful cruise of all time in another century or two.

Your argument makes a distinction between casuals and hardcore fans, arguing that WotC should cater to the hardcore fans to which you clearly self-identify. You argued that catering to hardcore fans brings in casuals and that ignoring this is what is killing the MCU.* This is eltist gatekeeping. You may have not said "filthy casuals," but I have heard this argument way too many times in other fan communities to not see the underlying message on the wall.

* Even here I would argue the opposite. One of the oft-cited problems I have seen "casual fans" cite with the MCU is crossover fatigue that appeals primarily to the hardcore fans. This is to say, the MCU incentivizes a lot of "you must watch everything to understand it" viewing patterns that can be massive turn-offs for people who aren't interested in following it all across movies and Disney+ specials.

It's how you made the argument. Even then, I'm not sure if I agree with it nor do I believe that your argument demonstrates how WotC has dropped the ball with their settings. It calls for radical new direction or leadership without first laying forth any of the fundamental groundwork to get us to that point of accepting the need for new leadership.

I think an honest read of the OP is that they are likely frustrated with the output of classic setting material by WotC and they'd like the company to produce a decent setting book for the current edition. After 8 years they want someone to shake things up because it looks like they may not get what they want anytime in the near future. Henadic Theologian is not a gatekeeper or a toxic fan and it would be nice if we stopped painting them that way.

Tearing each other apart is not a good look for us.

And what reasons is there to believe that a cold and calculated shake-up will lead to that sort of product line change, specifically...?
