Is problematic content acceptable if obviously, explicitly evil and meant to be fought?

We do have a broad range of media appealing to a range of tastes and sensibilities. It’s not realistic to rely on one publisher to supply it.

This, imo, is the strongest argument.

Why do you presume that WotC MUST make a product just for you that you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, will make other people unhappy?

((Note this is a generic you and not you @Irlo))

How do you know that?
If you want to argue that someone has been harmed by Dark Sun, feel free. For those individuals who have suffered trauma or have other conditions making them prone to being triggered, well, it isn't the responsibility of everyone else to make sure they never run into something that might trigger them. It's on them to either avoid those things or work on waysd to cope with those issues.

sometimes I wonder if its just the word Slave thats at issue, if we were to use the term Helot or Thrall would it be more acceptable. Afterall the game already uses the idea of Vampire thrall without issue.
slave is a background, the biblical Joseph was sold to merchants, taken to Egypt as a slave then became both a seer and Vizier. Neither the merchants who traded him, nor his master Potiphar were evil.

So we’re back to whitewashing the issue?

The existence of the “kindly slave owner” does not really change anything.

I mean you’re actually saying that slave traders are ok because Joseph has a good ending.

.

I think they are courting folks more into anime/superheroes perhaps than fans of older fiction than they did before.

I assume they have determined that is where the money is…and it is—-just not much more of mine.

GOOD.

It’s funny. WotC gets roasted all the time for not being creative. Not taking risks. Not doing anything new.

But apparently they’re supposed to do new things by retreading the same old fantasy yet again that has been done a thousand times over the past century of genre fiction.

:erm:

They have the license. DS fans probably (I'm guessing here) would like to have DS available on the DMsGuild I would think. Paizo doesn't have any licenses...

No. Actually it 100% is the responsibility of everyone to help people in need and be a positive force to help them “cope”. Your need to be entertained is far, far less important than easing someone’s pain.

It’s called compassion for a reason.

I’m sure they would. And they’re being told quite honestly and clearly why that isn’t going to happen.

Not sure why you’re bringing Paizo into this. They’ve clearly stated that they will not use slavery in their products going forward. Which means they will never rerelease any earlier products that used slavery without excising slavery from it.

And they get a hearty pat onthe back and a big thumbs up from the fandom.

WotC does EXACTLY the same thing. And we have multiple threads shouting from the rooftops that WotC is stoopid.

The irony here could built steam engines.
