D&D 5E Enough about Darksun, is there anything preventing a 5.5E Birthright remake?

Orogs. That subterrenean nasty people.

You do not get the Gorgon against you... And no, it is not a matter of I will kick his ass in a normal D&D style adventure. He will mess with you with just politics much earlier you can reach his door. And even if you reach, well, in 5e terms, he would have a very, very high CR.
Orogs, that was it!

And the Gorgon is just one of many, right? And while they do differ in power, they're all pretty much filling the role the Sorcerer-Kings had in Dark Sun. I also like that a couple of them are pretty misunderstood and doing the best thing for the people of their realm, as they see it. Coupled with the way the religions work, Birthright just had more nuance than any other D&D setting (imho of course, but also objectively).

Yes, not A kraken, but THE Kraken. And the Spider. And others. But not "monsters", but awnsheghlien! :p (the terminology fluff was one of the best points of the setting for me).
The Welsh/Irish Celticism and mysticism that ran through much of the setting was something I clicked with, being a bit Welsh, a bit Irish and a bit Scottish!

Gods? This is so far off the mark of what Birthright fans see as politics in a game. It all makes sense why you are not up for BR now.
Was literally responding to a line about multiple religions for a given god and expressing how that could be easily handled in literally any setting by making the "Good Guy Gods" not 100% aligned...

But go off, I guess.

Politics don't require Birthright. You can do politics in any game. Because politics aren't a mechanic you roll a d20 against, they're a roleplaying element you create and use.

Also: I'm not AGAINST it. I'm just saying I don't see a strong market for it because it doesn't have any clearly defined "This is a thing you can only really do in the Birthright Setting" element to give it a marketing hook.

Oh absolutely, but the time and effort it would take to create enough realms to satisfy Birthright fans and then create the material needed to work as the starting politics for the setting would be monumental. And in Birthright there is a mechanical dimension to the political game, as well as the roleplaying side.

Of course you can do all that sort of thing in any setting, but it's the way all the myriad details fit together and are ready to go that I think the 12+ of us diehard fans would want. Birthright is like a clockwork orrery with hundred of globes, all wound up and lovingly detailed, and when play starts the clockwork whirs into life and everything starts spinning. I don't imagine we'll see its like again.
