[OOC] Baptism by Fire_FULL

Neurotic: 6, 11, 11, 11, 12, 16; VLAD: 10, 11, 14, 16, 16, 16.

This is why I long ago gave up rolling. While it's nice that you wind up with some versatiliy (everyone doesn't just look 'the same'), you also wind up with situations like this.

Worse, if you let Neurotic reroll, and he gets a high set, how is that fair for those of us who only rolled slightly below average and kept them?

The net result of rolling is nearly ALWAYS power characters. Because the "balancing" crappy characters are NEVER PLAYED. It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be an option for imperfect (yet closer) balance.

(I'm just philosophising here, I am not in any way suggesting our DM changes the rules) but perhaps the best ability-generation method (when it comes to versatility and yet fairness) would be something like a point buy of 22+2d4. A tight, but manageable variance.

In my game I use 6+2d6, so game assumption of 8 minimum is held up.

I'm fine with doing base array or even keeping the bad set (I would just like/prefer not to :) )

Yes, it has been more headaches than its worth //LOL// so next game no rolling, although I do like the random point buy numbers. I'll let anyone reroll if they wish but note that like with any reroll you have to keep the second set, for better or worse.

I've never noticed the difference in the stats people could get by rolling, but when you put them side by side like that I notice the difference.

I would have thought that would generally skew too high, but giving it a few tries it seems to do okay. Obviously, there's still a chance for an uber-character, but there's less duds, that's for sure. Anyhow, I'll stop spamming the tread with theory crafting!

No problem, I think I might start things up MON and as a barbarian and a dragonborn it might be best the group meet your character on the road.

I imagine that, since my character's parents were killed by dragonborn of Tymanther (or at least in a war against dragonborn), my character might not immediately warm up to one.....

@Helmsman01 P.S, my character is done. You mentioned starting gold - do you mind if I buy a few things?

Math says average roll is 13 with 1 in 36 being 8 or 18, 1 in 12 9 or 17 6 in 36 being 10 or 15. Remaining 16 are the middle
