Mando season 3

Celebrity cameos are a problem if they take you out of the story, so that you are thinking "Oh, here's a crass appeal to popular culture." The last few seasons of Game of Thrones had plenty of narrative problems, but the Ed Sheeran cameo just screamed that the show no longer really cared about being taken seriously as a story. That property, like the Mandalorian, depends on being an entirely separate world than our own.

On the other hand, if a story is meant to be taken less seriously, then celebrity cameos can be a lot of fun. I loved the one in D&D:HaT because it was basically another good gag in a film that is all about good gags. When you've got a shaggy dog story to begin with, cameo away. But these cameos felt like they were undermining, not enhancing.
Sometimes it's also about how it's done. How many people got angry that Christian Slater was in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country"?

Eh.

A cameo from a good actor (with good directing) is fine. As @Ryujin points out, Christian Slater in Star Trek VI, or Bradley Cooper in the new D&D movie. Lizzo and Black didn't work as well, not because they are cameos, but because the acting/directing was undercooked.

I had no problem with the cameos. Lizzo and Jack Black worked just fine as the eccentric leaders of this eccentric independent paradise, and while I did a double-take at Christopher Lloyd, it was only because I recognised his voice. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Yeah, I had not issues with the cameos either. Remember how Flea was in the Obi-Wan show?

I also enjoyed the Bo/Axe duel at the end. Jetpacks, rockets, flames, etc.

Honestly, Jack Black, Lizzo and Christopher Lloyd were all jarring as hell. I appreciated seeing some prequel droids. But Bo's duel at the end was very weak. It kind of makes Mandalorians look like they're not very dangerous warriors at all.

That said, I honestly find Bo Katan miles more interesting as a character than our show's lead.

Kinda with you Bo Katan is more interesting.

Kinda neutral on caneis they didn't detract in any way Hut they didn't enhance the experience either. Christopher Liyd was the best of the bunch.

Apart from Sasha Banks. She's awesome.

Hehe, it's so funny how out of touch with pop culture I am. Sasha Banks? Had to google her. Then had to google who she was in Mandalorean. Then had to google a bit more to remember seeing her at all in the show. Had zero idea who she was.

I really liked the fact that we got to see a Star Wars planet that wasn't a festering hell hole. This IS supposed to be a high tech society - or rather a whole collection of high technology societies. Yet, other than what, Naboo maybe? every planet we see in Star Wars is either a hive of scum and villainy or an Orwellian dystopia.

You mean there's actually places in the Star Wars universe that people would honestly want to live in? Fantastic. Oh, and look, not every scene is underlit and squintingly dark. People actually have access to sufficient light. So what if the leaders are a couple of famous actors? Ok. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

I found it fun. These shows are supposed to be fun, right?
