Pitfall! was awesome! And part of the continuing trend to make everyone terrified of the dreaded QUICKSAND.

That said, my ride-or-die game?

(Close #2 would be Warlords if you had multiple people)

I even remembered the name of that one!!!
(I must have played a lot more Atari than I remember when trying to get my 13yo to turn off the video game system for a while).

Yar's Revenge was my jam!

I have this association with Yar's Revenge and Star Frontiers, by the way. I remember that I got YR on sale (it had been out a year or so?) at the same time that I got Star Frontiers + Knight Hawks, and that was an amazing summer.

They still haven't made a better video game .... right? ;)

I have no issue with someone deciding that for a reason of personal ethics they will no longer support a company or buy a product. That is their right.

I do, however, find it amusing when folks confuse that with a boycott, which is an organized political tactic with clear demands sent to the boycotted party with the aim of correcting the problem and eventually returning to the use of that service or product.

So I was about to make a bad joke, and then I was like ... huh, what is the etymology of boycott?

....from the name of Captain Charles C. Boycott (1832–97), an Irish land agent so treated in 1880, in an attempt instigated by the Irish Land League to get rents reduced.

I am actually shocked and ashamed I did not know that!

So, in penance, I will provide my favorite contranym- SANCTION.

So, if you can't read the room, I guess I will go back to the earlier conversation about using ignore.

I tend to use if for three four occasions.

1. I get into an argument with someone that isn't stopping. Maybe it's them. Maybe it's me. But if I put them on ignore for a few days, whatever it was will pass.

2. The person does something beyond the pale, IMO. This could be the whole, "Making it personal," thing. These I tend to review every few months. A lot of the time, the person has ... exited themselves ... from the forum.

3. The person is part of a select group that I have decided I can do without for reasons.

....4. Failure to read the room. I don't want this thread getting killed off.
I haven't had anyone on Ignore for quite a while now so I don't remember if this is an option, but being able to list a reason for the Ignore would be a handy feature. It would let you differentiate between the temps and the perms.

I don't bother with "ignore" anymore and go straight to "block" because I can't trust myself not to look at the redacted content but am sufficiently lazy to never actually open up an incognito window to read stuff by posters I've blocked.

Know thyself!

I tell ya, laziness has helped me avoid so much trouble .... it's probably my best and most defining character trait.

“Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious ‘as per my last email’ loop, the tendancy is to push it as far as you can.”
