D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

They should though. They really really should.

They're really just holding on because an influential corner is still making fetch happen in terms of 'fetch' being a playstyle that's fading out.
I browse the forums regularly and I see absolutely no consensus on what is and is not a dominant style of play. There are now tons of games to choose from and it would be silly to exclude certain playstyles, whether fading or not, by making all those games identical. D&D is experiencing a surge in popularity. Perhaps it won't last, but it would seem to me to be more sensible to ride that wave and worry about adjusting playstyle once the surge has worn off.

I should point out that I don't actually like daily recharge classes and typically play rogues, warlocks, rangers, and fighters.

I'm of the basic opinion that having some form of pacing and attrition adds options to the game, and "daily" seems to be the way D&D does it. 4e's "daily" and "within the encounter unless things went very very pear shaped and you didn't have time to clean your weapons and loot the bodies after the fight" also worked. 5e's "two entirely different timescales" doesn't.

They should though. They really really should.
I’d rather get rid of short rests entirely. I guess we can find some middle ground in saying there should just be one type of rest ;)

fading = I do not like it, or do you have something to back that up?

~Looks at past threads about dungeon crawling and Reef's threads on how rests are being done.~

Yep, I totally made it up.
You mean the one that is entirely inconclusive with 1 fight per rest getting 40%, 2 get 50%, 3 30% and 5 30% (multiple choices allowed)?

Or the one where 60% take 0 or 1 rest on average (for unspecified reasons) with 3/4 of those taking one? That could very well be healing related, it certainly is less than a Warlock would want...

Combined I'd say they do not show the 2 to 3 encounters per short rest with 2 to 3 short rests per day that your approach should show.

Why the assumption that the wizard is smug here? No reason for that in the question.
They're a Wizard, that comes with the territory :p

Is there a thing a Wizard player likes better than going "Wait a second, DM, I have actually prepared the perfect spell to foil your plan! Because I am SO good at this game!"? I believe it's the whole appeal of the Wizard and anything that impede (or allow some other class to enjoy) that whole power trip is considered BAD and having RUINED THE GAME. And WotC listens to the Wizard players because they must know the game, they're Wizard players and you hear from them so often... right?

(don't take any of that too seriously)
