So, gang, a question.

I have Calm emotions prepared...I could risk it while grappled or could free myself first. In both cases, I risk calming our guards too.

Other than that, I don't have area spells besides bless (which could be useful since we have difficulties hitting) that could be useful here, I had a day of running over the city in mind when preparing, not mass combat :)

What do you say?

What is Akos' divine focus? If it is something that he can readily have at hand (or around his neck), then no worries. Otherwise, it is like any other material component. It takes a full-round action to ready it while grappling.

Also, while I was willing to forego the somatic components for Eldritch Blast, I'm not going to allow that for all of Akos' spells and abilities. So, he needs to get free first before being able to cast calm emotions.

Holy symbol around his neck - it was even described at some point :)

For the casting, I thought concentration checks covered that part? But no matter, the question still stands - should I risk casting Calm emotion? If the people here are controlled somehow maybe killing the enchantress would help?

The DC 20 Concentration check is for being grappled, but a character still must be able to make somatic movements, which is why Still Spell or Sudden Still would be required. The other Concentration check is to cast defensively while being threatened by the other Loyalists and mercenaries. For calm emotions, the DC will be 17 while Akos is being threatened. But, he can't do it while being grappled because the spell requires somatic movements.

Akos can cast any spells without a somatic component while being grappled. Eldritch Blast will now fall into that category. It seems more logical to not have it required somatic components. It still requires that Akos can speak. So, if some one gags him, he can't use Eldritch Blast.

If he can get free from the grapple (this round), he only needs to make the DC 17 Concentration check to cast the spell defensively (next round).

If we have no way of inflicting mass damage, at the rate these jokers are coming out of the woodwork, we need to consider one of two things: wholesale retreat or tactical retreat to get them to split their forces or meet all of us head on. If you’re gonna use a spell that basically makes everybody stand around and look at each other, I’d prefer you use it now. Gets you out of that pickle.
