It's super weird that the generation that grew up with names spelled in crazy ways so that parents could ensure their kids would grow up "unique" refuse to honor how the parent of the GIF format pronounced his "kid's" name.

Blast. I've missed my opportunity to have two children named Gif and Gif.

I don't understand the need for a "debate" at all. Do we even need it to be pronounced one single way for everyone? We have different pronunciations for many words in English: tomaytoe vs. tomahto, LABratory vs. laBORaTREE, aLOOMinum vs. aLOOminEEum, etc., and the Internet doesn't seem to have a problem with them. But this one particular acronym makes some people lose their mind.

Whether I say "gif" or "jiff," you know what the $%#@$# I'm talking about.

If we're talking about computer graphics, sure. But if you say jiff in any other context I'm going to think you're talking about peanut butter.
