The idea that PF2 is just 4E is the weirdest take.

I can see an argument that its a hybrid between a 4e approach and a 3e approach. There are certainly some 4e-like elements to be found, and its much more serious about its combat actually being balanced and teamwork not being optional than D&D3e or PF1e.

But its nowhere near as far down that road as D&D4e was, for good or bad.

The biggest problem with "steampunk" is that it is, generally speaking, not at all "punk." it isn't about how technology oppresses people or how those people fight back. It is about elves with steam powered jetpacks, or whatever.

That's part of the general decay of the -punk suffix in fiction; its often only given cursory attention in cyberpunk, far as that goes.
 




One D&D is not being made because of any particular impetus regarding the rules, the player base, or the upcoming anniversary of the game. It's being made entirely for economic reasons:
