They switched to using Pathfinder, later on, because they has an agreement with Paizo both for distribution, and for use of their material in the films. Paizo also provided a Metric Buttload of misprints to be used in the "church book burning" at the end of their version of "Dark Dungeons", based on the Chick Tract of the same name.
I didn't know that! I've only watched the behind the scenes section of the movie once or twice, and must have missed that tidbit.

They talked about it on the ZOE Discord channel. It was either that, or when a bunch of us were talking randomly about the movie at ZOECon, a few years back. Someone noticed that there were Pathfinder rulebooks being tossed in the fire and one of the behind the scenes crew spilled the beans.

I should add that while "Dark Dungeons" is well worth watching in order to see Poe's Law in action, the parallel-but-not-in-any-way-related-production "Attacking the Darkness" is hilarious. They take shots at everyone, including themselves as actors and gamers in general, throughout the production. Chris Ode, who is an actual Lutheran Pastor in addition to being a long-time member of ZOE, has a heart-wrenching scene in it that still gets me to this day. The movie is done in Mockumentary style.

I know, KNOW, I bought a DVD of The Gamers, the original movie, waaaay back in the day at some GenCon right when it came out. I have turned my house upside down looking for it, and accept that it somehow walked away, or went to the dimension socks go. But what really gets me is, when I realized it was missing a couple of years ago I tried to find a reasonably priced replacement, but all I could find were copies of The Gamers II: Dorkness Rising. If I look online now, I can see the price of the original has dropped to $100 or so on Amazon, but I can't make myself spend that on a replacement copy, even though I loved that movie.

I also can't find my copy of Über Goober, but at least that one will be cheap to replace...

Folks are currently working on rebuilding the ZOE website. I think they've managed to link all of the available online media, at this point. They currently don't have a distributor but at least one of the guys has a garage full of merch, and they're working on rebuilding an online store. Things got a little nuts when Ben Dobyns stepped down as president of the company, a while back. "The Gamers" DVDs may well be part of it.

"You are literally posting in a thread, where the answer to your question is not just in the OP, but the entire point of the thread is to point out the answer to your question."

A more clear example of missing the point, losing the plot, and/or simply not even reading the OP, I've never seen.

Well, I do get paid to do the thing you‘re ignorantly opining about so…

<sarcasm>
So that, like, makes you an expert or something?

:p

When I worked at the toothpaste factory we got a shipment of bad bottles. We discovered this before filling them because, fortunately, I was the one who opened them. When the company called the vendor about it, they tried to make a bunch of excuses. But I told the boss to make sure I was there when they called, and it was hysterical how fast they turned around and agreed to make it right once they discovered I'd spent five years making the damn things...
