D&D (2024) Memorize Spell is one of the most obnoxious abilities I've ever seen, despite being perfectly on-theme (Packet 7)

I crit!
Actually now I think about it I think I really like that idea from way back when.

Let the wizard cast that spell out of his book, but like a scroll the pages go woof, with a chance the whole book does.

Granted, in a lot of games, especially in AL, they could just have a dozen books.

A backlash mechanic would be okay but does mean more dice rolling, in fact any kind of limitation on Wizards would be great. The biggest problem with Wizards is that DnD spells are all auto-success, and removing the last limit -Prep- just turns the whole game worse.
Requiring an empty slot would be great, though I want to see Skill based magic or at least a spell gain roll for Wizards to memorise the unprepared spell

Way back when I used to let Magic Users cast spells out of their spell book like a scroll. But they would lose that spell and the pages out of their book, with a chance that they'd lose the whole book.
Was, in fact, once a standard rule -- AD&D Unearthed Arcana, p.80.

1. You need that spell that you need in your spellbook.
Sure, it can be lot's of spells, but it's never ALL the spells.

2. That spell still costs a spell slot, it's not unlimited.

3. This is just a hotfix for; Well, I guess we will have to sleep here and we will solve this tomorrow.

One day, I hope to actually play DnD.
i really feel like this is something that should be optional but cutting into your spells memorised, you can have every spell you can cast potentially at the tip of your fingers, but -3 spells memorised, a huge boost in your potential flexibility at the cost of your practical versatility.
