D&D 5E Planescape shows up in the wild. Tease from Chris Perkins.

A meaningless link to the past if his art is different (meaningless for any reason other than enticing veterans to buy something anyway).
Actually it is a wonderful link. You see how his art has evolved and this could/should/does give a graphic representation on how the setting has evolved. It is quite a subtle and meaningful link IMO.
Controversial opinion: I don't see the point of getting Diterlizzi to do the Art. His stuff doesn't look like it did in the 90s anymore. All I can see is Nodwick now, especially that very cutesy Lady of Pain.

New fans may very well like his new art, that not relevant to my point, which is that the reason they chose him over someone else is because he worked on the old project, to the point where that art is strongly associated with the setting. He no longer makes that art, so now the reason to use him is that his name will increase sales.
Maybe, but that is hardly a guarantee. I never liked his old style and didn't get into planescape back in the day because of it. His name alone would have killed this purchase. Fortunately I can see that his art has evolved and I in fact prefer his covers to the standard cover. So much so, that this will be the first physical book I've gotten in a while. So I am purchasing his covers despite his name being attached to it!

What that means for sales, IDK. It is unlikely the small number of 2e planescape fans will make a large dent in the sales of this book IMO. If adding Tony was a plan to increase sales, I image that target increase was pretty small.

You really think WotC had any mind to the idea you posted? They're not exactly notable for their subtlety.

I mean it's quite literally baked into the fabric of the planes. It would be a massive departure.
Sort of. I mean, I've always used the planes and I've never used alignment (except where I HAD to under older D&D). IF alignment is seen as just a made-up descriptor of someone's idea of boxing morals/ideals/tendencies into a simplified 9-box system, when "reality" (or multiple-reality) is far more nuanced and complicated, the planar alignments can both be true (in that no-one would object to them being described that way) but also not necessary as labels.

Does that make sense? I'm trying to say - the planes can be unchanged in what they are and how they're portrayed and yet not have alignment a thing.

Maybe so, but if his art was like it was before it would have increased my chances of spending money on it, so at best you and I are a wash.
