So I got to Nightsong. Killing Balthazar was a pain but man Ranger Karlach was MVP. Even blind and disadvantage on saves she took out him and like 4 of his minions solo. Everyone else died in Cloud Kill spells.

Also, Shadowheart had to decide to forsake Shar or not and I guess she might have done it on her own? I passed a DC 30 persuasion check to help her a long but that felt like maybe I robbed her of the choice. Does she choose not to kill her on her own?

Also I guess Shar isn’t to mad since she still grants SH her clerical spells.

In my first playthrough I let Shadowheart make her own choice. She spared Nightsong and threw the spear over the cliff. My PC made mostly good-aligned choices during the run. I was not in a romantic relationship with Shadowheart. My belief is that if left up to her own choice, Shadowheart is largely influenced by the decisions you made during Act 1 and 2. If you were kind to both others and her, she is likely to spare Nightsong. If you commit one evil act after another and encourage her to believe Shar's propaganda, she is likely to kill Nightsong.

I'm pretty sure it's based on her approval score of your character. If it's high enough, and you let her make her own decision, she'll spare the Nightsong. If not, she kills Nightsong.

In my second playthrough I didn't bring her along to Shar's Gauntlet at all. As a result, once I'd freed the Nightsong Shadowheart promptly told me where to stick it and walked out.

What simple builds (two classed or single classed characters) have you found to be optimized? Some that I have found to be good are:

Light Cleric (single classed, best with radiant orb gear) (respec Shadowheart)
Battlemaster Fighter (single classed) (Lae'zel)
Draconic Sorcerer 1/Warlock 11
Draconic Sorcerer 1/Lore Bard 11
Lore Bard 10/Warlock 2
Draconic Sorcerer 10/Warlock 2
Gloomstalker Ranger 8/Rogue 4 (archery fighting style and sharpshooter feat) (Astarion)

I heard that Pact of the Blade Warlock 5/Paladin 7 (Wyll) is strong but I have not been able to play that one yet.

So mouthing off to Vlaakith is BAD.

she will literally just wish your party's end and boom TPK game over. Kind of fun though.

Not a build exactly, but getting Alert on multiple characters allows for some utterly brutal combos thanks to adjacent characters swapping initiative. You don't need it to win, but it's pretty game changing.
