They're not true bagels, just made with bagel dough. This is a pretty typical way they come out looking:

Those just look like pretzel dogs without the salt and mustard, and therefore inferior.

Ah. I was imagining something more like the old Wimpy bender burger, but with a hole in the middle.

There's no reason you can't end-slice hot dogs, grill them and toss them on a bagel too, far as that goes; but the typical bagel dog (which to be clear, I like a whole lot) looks something like what I showed.

There's only so many ways you're going to unwrap something and wrap it around a hot dog and not have them look ind of similar. I've had both, and I prefer a bagel dog, but I won't turn down a pretzel dog either (of course part of that is I prefer plain hot dogs and nobody gives you too funny a look about it with either version).
 






Hot dogs in hard taco shells with nacho cheese, onions, salsa? Sure, I'd give that a try.

Hot dog quesadillas work well
