It still baffles me that this is a thing, but I’ve experienced it with a group I played with a few years back. The funny thing is they were willing to try playing an older edition which actually had more mechanical differences before they’d be willing to try someone else’s topping (“so it’s more or less 3e pineapple, but in space”), even if I offered to run it and do all the prep work to make it so they can just show up, roll some dice and play. Pineapple drizzled with THAC0 flavored secret sauce? Why not? Old school retro clone pineapple? I don’t see an ampersand on it…

It’s pineapple or bust for some people.

That wasn't what I was talking about, though its not untrue.

I was thinking more of people who's whole access is, basically, D&D5e and pretty much nothing but. And I know someone will come along and talk about remote play (and to be clear, that's what I do these days) but the fact is that can either be impractical in and of itself (either for technological or timing reasons) or simply provides an experience that is sufficient not what they're looking for that its a useless suggestion; I don't find it a vastly different experience but enough people seem to that I'm not going to sit here and tell them from where they sit they're wrong.

Oh for sure. My example was what contributes to the one restaurant scenario because people’s only access to a game is what people will play. The problem gets worse if you’re not willing to look online for a game that you want to try as you’ve noted. Or don’t feel comfortable playing with randoms to begin with. Or don’t want to learn to GM.

I guess in keeping with food themes for this thread, the solution for me was to find friends who are foodies that will eat pretty much anything I offer to try cooking. That’s unfortunately not an option for everyone. :(

So? Lego sets are about cool builds and settings to play with... for any era of their licensed products. They don't always have to be based on the most up-to-date events (particularly considering Iron Man's dead). I mean, I guess they don't have to make any original trilogy Lego sets or figures, right? Yet they still sell sets like the Defense of Hoth and sets with Han Solo as a figure despite him being dead too.

Which makes total sense as I believe that is what most of the fans really want and I’m not going to act like that wasn’t probably the right call considering the continued popularity of the franchise. But like a prior poster mentioned, it makes me wonder why they continue to include the modern story at all of it really doesn’t matter to anything.
Hard agree. I play it specifically because it does such a good job at letting me play an ancient Egyptian (Origins) or ancient Greek (Odyssey) or Viking (Valhalla, though i feel the quality isn't as good as the prior two, but I'm not out of the starter area yet). Until I get my Ancient World MMO, where the different servers are different ancient cities/regions (Alexandria; Athens; Londinium; Heck, maybe even Port Royal, Jamaica), I guess I'll take it.

The real Avengers live in Avengers Mansion at 890 Fifth Avenue.
(Which, of course, means the real Avengers haven't been around for quite some time either in the comics and never in the movies... I like the ones in the movies even if they aren't the real ones though. In fact, based on % of stories that have been good I probably like them better.)
