I was having a related thought in an unrelated thread:

People criticize others for being overly pedantic at times But the closer you're going to walk to line to dangerous (or stupid) and inflammatory statements, it really does become really important to be really pedantic.

Sure. That same individual was eventually disinvited from the thread for trying to argue that holocaust denial was anti-Semitic but not racist. So. Yeah.. sometimes pedantry makes things worse.

At that point I would use the word "exacting" rather than "pedantic"
