D&D (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

HD=>heling surge, 25% of your max HP
number of HS = con score + your level

when you take Dodge Action, you can spend an HS.

As for int you can give bonus skills and bonus tools/languages/weapons per point of int bonus. Like 3.5e
That also works.
Maybe I try it out in my next campaign. Having another possible dump stat is fine. Would take preassure from int, str (dex for heavy armor users) and cha.

Now I think we need a different way of determining surprise (passive perception has to go) and we have no universally required stat anymore. You can get along with any dump stat.

Maybe initiative could also be determined differently too.

This. Or just trying to make con and int more used by codifying some rules.

And taking con out of the hp equation.

I think con should be used for the number of hit dice and what to add when rolling.

I think hp should always be max hit die, no con bonus. Hit dice spent on short rest should be hit die + con bonus. And you get extra hit dice per point of con.

So wizards could get along with 8 con, if they don't plan on concentration spells too much. And they just can't regenerate a lot of hp during short rests. They'd rely on clerics but otherwise they'd be perfectly fine. Fighting types can recover more if they have high con. And they'd generally be tougher at lower levels.
The one thing PCs don't need, IMO, is more hit points.

They don´t have more hp in the end.

My solution was just "simple" = "good"

It is +2 for d6 classes, +3 for d8 classes, +4 for d10 classes and +5 for the barbarian. and a nerf to lvl 1 hp.

If you think it is too much, you could give average hp (rounded up)+2, maybe average hp (rounded down) + prof bonus also works.

Not a big fan of simple, especially for its own sake.

I wonder if years from now when d&d moves on to 6e or whatever if we start seeing people mention how 2014 5e's simplicity at all costs was an edict sent down from corp from like we did after 4e when there were admissions about similar edicts that required them to just push newIPnewIPnewIP & ignore or thwart the existing but known popular IP from the past.

I really like to believe so, yes.

A lot of simplification is good, when 3e came out with its unified d20 mechanic, that was great. Now it was the same mechanic for hitting something, rolling skill checks, and making saves. No more separate attack rolls, roll under for skills and roll over for saves, and no more percentile skill checks for thieves. I ever minded thac0 but I also get why they changed it to ascending (something they wanted to do for 2e, but didn't because they didn't want to invalidate 1e, I guess conversion documents weren't a thing back then)
