While I understand ranting endlessly about your unresolved issues is cheaper than therapy, me putting you on ignore is also free.
I’ve been known to say that whining is an important part of a healthy mental diet. A lot of the time we refrain from dumping our whole burden on others, because they have their own load already. There are ways of communicating physical and mental pain and impairment while keeping a relatively calm and functional manner.

But sometimes you just gotta let it out. Social masks aren’t for 24/7/365.25. It’s good to be honest from time to time about feelings of helplessness, incapacity and incompetence, mourning for lost routines and opportunities, the works.

The trick is to not camp out there. Whine, get some relief, and get back to the work of living. I start off with a lot of sympathy for people who are having a good whine, but they can use all that sympathy up in not very long. Whining is not a substitute for necessary action, it’s more like a defogger, deicer, and windshield wipers for when you need them.

You scurry down the dark tunnel hearing slight water droplets occasionally splashing into the shallow pool at your feet. Out of the corner of your eye you see shadows moving. Roll initiative and all players take their place behind their hippo...

I think i'll name this RPG Ravenous.
A real book (a really good one, a moving, dark alternate history):

For sure.

There's nothing wrong with expressing disappointment or frustration with something. Back when I DMed 5e and was generally dissatisfied with the system, I posted complaints here and on reddit looking for feedback to see if maybe this was just a me problem. It didn't take long for me to figure out the game was fine, it was just me that it didn't click with and I stopped complaining about the thing a lot of folks enjoyed and went looking for a different system. As time passes, I generally mostly think of the things I did enjoy about 5e and the issues fade away because they're just not that important.

But if you're still carrying around gripes about a game that hasn't been the current edition in over a decade or a change in design philosophy that seems to be widely enjoyed, that's not healthy. Life is far too short to hang on to that kinda baggage over something that's supposed to be a fun hobby. Find what makes you happy and focus on that.

This is a big amount of why I've tried to stop complaining about Advantage/Disadvantage. Yeah, I hate it, and can express why, and particularly don't like that its propagated into other game systems in some cases, but its also become clear that a lot of people either don't care or actively like it, so am I doing anything productive by circling back to it? I just avoid game systems using it, so does my issue here really matter to, well, anyone?

It does when folks ask, "what your take on this?". Though, folks will manufacture that opportunity all day every day when they have a pet project.

Well, yeah, if I'm in a thread where it actually seems genuinely relevant I'll probably still do my short riff on it, but bringing it up out of the blue is something I've made an effort to stop doing, even if it is a bit of a spot that itches for me.

Yes yes, you hate Wizards of the Coast. That is such a lively new take on this conversation about books. I remember you saying the same thing in the thread about dice, and the thread about movies, and the thread about Kickstarter, and (weirdly) the thread about Covid-19. Always so controversial, so edgy. I had no idea they were ruining so many things in your life. Thanks for keeping us in the loop? I guess?
