Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I went to the book store recently and asked for a book on dinosaurs. The guy at the counter asked, "A book for a child or a book for an adult?" I said "A book for an adult wanting to be a child," and left with a really cool dinosaur book.

"The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs" by Steve Brusatte is GREAT.

The terrifying bit is that there is a real world AI company called Palantir...

Note that Palantir was doing big data analytics for a couple of decades before "AI" came to our lips.

Nothing says, "We have your best interests at heart," quite like doing data analytics named after the thing Sauron uses to watch and influence people.

Of course, Peter Theil was one of the founders, and he just likes stealing Tolkien names - he also had "Valar Ventures" and "Mithril Capital".

Is that better or worse than a defense contractor making autonomous bombers and fighter jets calling itself Andruil?

Is that better or worse than an energy giant using beloved terms from every nerd property under the sun to name it's various shell companies?

Seems rather appropriate. The Palantiri were used as a means of communication and divination. Sauron used them to mislead viewers, but could not actually use them to communicate lies, just mislead with truthful images.

Much like statistics.

Bonus points for the best use of "Of Course."
