Nothing says, "We have your best interests at heart," quite like doing data analytics named after the thing Sauron uses to watch and influence people.

Of course, Peter Theil was one of the founders, and he just likes stealing Tolkien names - he also had "Valar Ventures" and "Mithril Capital".

Seems rather appropriate. The Palantiri were used as a means of communication and divination. Sauron used them to mislead viewers, but could not actually use them to communicate lies, just mislead with truthful images.
