@trappedslider

The other version of that story?

DM: There's a guard dog outside of the outpost.

Players: Okay! So, we have to sneak up on this NPC we gotta kill, right?

DM: What are you going to do?

Players: Take out the dog.

(combat)

DM: Okay, the dog is dead. What do you do now?

Players: We should approach the outpost stealthily ... wait, what was the name of the NPC again?

DM: ......... Johannes Wick.....

Unrelated to the above: It is entirely in-character for you to take such an obnoxious, insensitive, and wrong opinion, and it is entirely in-character for you to refuse to listen to anyone telling you it is obnoxious, insensitive, and wrong. If nothing else, you're consistent.

Aliens.

Seeing Newt's very 1980s workout video family, kids riding Weyland-Yutani Big Wheels and being hammered over the head with "THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT MOTHERHOOD" weakens the entire affair. Everything added to the director's cut slows the movie down and robs it of tension.
Don't quite agree there. Yes, the stuff added in the beginning is bad (at least it was in the book, based on screenplay). But the scene with the sentry guns work very well though.

I just watched a TikTok video of a guy proudly proclaiming that he's "never buying garlic ever again!" Why? Because he discovered this "cool hack" where he took the garlic he got from the supermarket and planted it in his backyard and--you won't believe this!--it grew more garlic. This guy genuinely believes he discovered agriculture in his backyard.

I would agree on the sentry gun scene, at the very least. It does a good job of illustrating what they are really up against.

The sentry gun sequence is fine (although repetitive of what's already in the film). But that's just a fraction of what the director's cut adds.

I adore the Alien franchise, but the director's cut of Aliens hurts the movie substantially.
