Getting back to elven bards...

My favourite PC over the last few years is my wife's elven bard. (Their mum is an elf, their father is an assimar planes-walking douche bag of a dead-beat dad.) The bard ticks all the cross-dressing, fabulous, pansexual clichés we expect from bards. But that's fine because they are much more than that.

They're a brave adventurer. A loving brother (although not above teasing the hell out of said brothers.) A businessman. A political activist. Seriously, we had a whole arc where the heroes worked to enfranchise the suburbs of Greyhawk City. A diplomat (okay, this is pretty standard for bards.)

My wife just loves playing them. Iggy (Ignatius D'Lendor) is a joy to GM because when I dangle a plot hook I never know which way they're going to go with it, including sometimes going "Nah."

Bards. They're wacky and unpredictable. That's why they're great.
