D&D (2024) Is anyone going to use the new 2024 backgrounds?

I used standard array... Sage per background video is Con, Int, Wis
Ok on standard array you do not have a better wisdom with a bonus to Wisdom:

S15, D12, C16 (14+2), W14 (13+1), I10 ,CH8

Now with the +2 in Strength

S15 (13+2), D12 ,C16 (15+1), W14, I10, CH8

So it is exactly the same Wisdom in this non-optimal Barbarian on point buy. You are not able to percieve or resist mind effects better. It is exactly the same ability to do that if you keep your 15 and 16 in strength and Constitution respectively.

So yes there is no way on point buy or standard array to have a higher ability to percieve or resist mind effects if you start with a 15 Strength and 16 Constitution.

I'm fine with every player going with the custom background even if their backstory would fit into one of the established ones.

I'd rather accommodate the players who have interesting ideas that don't fit into the current background mechanics than thwart the ones who are just going to use the custom mechanics to min/max.

I did not compare to a barbarian built exactly like that. I compared it to a barbarian that has 14 dex and 12 wis.

I really do not know what you are trying to prove here.

You said, chosing sage hinders your barbarian. I proved, that it does not.
Now you showed me that we get exactly the same stats, just by other means.

So you proved my point, thanks.

Nobody is buying a book because of backgrounds, and nobody who wrote the backgrounds at WOTC thought people would buy the books because of backgrounds

Then why do the promotional videos act like this "new" method of character creation is some revolutionary, exciting thing? It's either false marketing or a bad job at trying to create something that was somehow supposed to be special.

I just created an interesting sage barbarian. Inspired by another user. One with not optimal stat distribution. Best using the 3 stat options in the background.

I liked that.

So having those packages can actually inspire people. Even if it is that simple.

So right now, I think overall it is great.

The only background I don't like is acolyte... Who needs more than one mental stat...

If you are going to mince words like that, use the proper words... The navy doesn't catagorize "sailor". Like the other branches it divides individuals based on their MOS. Even "naval aviator" alone is subdivided into 6300 6303 6305 & 6307 with further subdivisions for specialistswith related specialization

In the Navy it is not an MOS it is a Rate (for enlisted) or a Designator (for officers). Naval Aviator is 131X (the X is a number that varies based on subspecialty)

The numbers you have above are not Naval Aviators, they are Limited Duty officers. That is what the "6" stands for. They may be involved in aviation in some form or fashion. Also the entire 630X series is phased out.

Here is the current reference from the Navy Bureau of Personnel:

And they are all sailors. Every single one of them, just like everyone in the Army is a Soldier. Exactly like what was said above and I am not mincing words. Someone on a ship is a sailor and there are a ton of different specialties under that umbrella.

You are proving my point.

Great, I'm aware of that... except for many many pages you've been pushing for something far more specific mechanically than the general catchall pronoun used by the navy.

We get it, you think 5.5 does not offer enough new material in your opinion, think it's a money grab, and think they're lying about the level of newness of this release. You have repeated variations on this same point at least five times now.

Why do you keep doing that? Are you trying to sell us on this opinion of yours as if it's new when it's just repackaging of your prior opinions here? The content of your contributions should be more special than this.
