Nope. Tried it. Didn't like it.Not even pineapple fried rice?
Speaking personally, counterspell isn't broken so much as it's an anchor that sinks fun into the depths. NPC casts a spell, PC 1 counterspells, NPC 2 counterspells the counterspell, PC 2 counterspells NPC 2's counterspell, NPC 1 counterspells PC 2's counterspell, and so on.I've been playing D&D 5th Edition for years, and somehow we never noticed that Counterspell was broken. Or that monsters having Legendary Resistance was unfair. Or that I shouldn't be writing the adventure, or rolling my dice in the open, or using experience points, the list goes on. We've just been rolling dice and telling stories this whole time, blissfully ignorant of these very real and very serious issues that were keeping us from having fun.
It's one of those things that works great in fiction but turns D&D into a game of Uno. I don't think most people at the table are having fun when the DM and one or two players are just slapping yelling "UNO REVERSE" at each other for 10 minutes. (This also applies to Silvery Barbs and similar 2024 abilities.)Speaking personally, counterspell isn't broken so much as it's an anchor that sinks fun into the depths. Better to just ban counterspell and tell the players at the beginning of combat that everyone on both sides will lose two 3rd level slots to simulate having counterspell.
I don't believe this has ever happened at any table ever. Spell slots are too valuable for this nonsense.Speaking personally, counterspell isn't broken so much as it's an anchor that sinks fun into the depths. My players don't like to be slapped in the face by an enemy spell if they can avoid it and negate the enemy's turn at the same time.I don't believe this has ever happened at any table ever. Spell slots are too valuable for this nonsense.
I can believe it, actually. It's completely possible for the people at the table to get committed to winning the exchange, and if the fights are all taking place in little spaces you don't even have the tactical flexibility to be out of counterspell range when you cast.I don't believe this has ever happened at any table ever.
