D&D: Enhanced Edition
D&D: GOTY Edition
D&D: Definitive Edition

not bad
I'd unironically be ok with a new book for all of those, assuming the only real difference is new art in it or maybe some supplement rules incorporated.

Like, a "Game of the Year" edition with a whole new suite of art...worth buying to me. I'm hoping eventually WotC takes this direction with D&D where we can stabilize the system for a LONG time, giving a lot of time for the 3rd party scene around it to grow and develop, while first party focuses on improving adventure design and releasing the books with new, cool art each time.

They've said that the power levels are remaining the same. That means the changes are mostly cosmetic. Instead of a monster casting fire all twice, it has scorching blast with the stats of a fireball, but isn't a spell. That avoids counterspell killing encounters.

The changes have to be really minor or CR will be affected.

They're redoing the math a bit as well to increase the deadliness of monsters. So a skeleton, as a simple example, has +1 to hit and damage. Not a huge change, but then again it's just a CR 1/4 monster. For higher level monsters it appears that they're redoing legendary and potentially lair actions.

And whenever they discuss their characters and game with other people.

Let's not pretend people don't cite whether they were playing 3e or 3.5 and won't have to do the same today.

The only reason this is even a discussion is because WotC told us not to use the edition word.
I say "3e" for all of three whether 3.0 or 3.5. If I need to specify, I use the decimals. But I pretty much never need to distinguish. So 3e it is.

For AD&D, I usually refer to 1e. I rarely refer to 2e except for the origins of some settings. Meanwhile when I am referring to all of the traditions inclusively, I say "old school" and at this point include OSR and similar.

For 4e, I refer to every thing as "4e" − especially since "everything is core". I consider 4e Essentials more like a Tashas.

I don't see how that can be true and Crawford's claim that the CRs from both 5e and 5.5e will be comparable.

Okay, so that's you.

There's other people though.
