D&D (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

I'm not a new DM. Been at it since 2001.

This is information gathered from blogs, vlogs, videos, podcasts, and DMs ive mentored
I guess D&D just isn't for everyone.
Good thing there are a ridiculous number of alternatives. But if people are having a hard time finding good help learning the most popular RPG out there....it seems less likely they'll find a bigger mentor base elsewhere.

A product can have massive growth but have a portion of it be bad.

That's not something that's inconsistent.
You can't have massive growth in a TTRPG without sufficient DM to run games for all those players itching to use their new super powers and "get to the action". It is simply hyperbole to suggest DMing 5e is as hard as you say; your logic breaks down when you actually see a bunch of groups playing 5e, each with a DM.

Type in "I'm leaving 5e" or "Why I left 5e" in YouTube.

Most of the videos repeat the same things on the DM side
I've watched a few in the last 20 min. Mostly click baity whining.
I call flag on the play every time someone uses the "OGL" as a reason to leave D&D. The OGL problem didn't actually happen. It was canceled before it went into effect. How was a publishing license going to affect anyone's game?
Its fine not to like D&D. Let go and move on with your life.

If it's that easy, do it and post the links.
Negativity sells and some people have always found DMing is not their thing. Just like the game isn't for everyone. It's still not particularly relevant when looking at how easy DMing is in comparison to other editions of the game.

Other games are easier, especially ones that don't really have a GM along the lines of what D&D requires. There are also games that are going to be more difficult. But at a certain point it's just comparing apples, oranges and personal preference.

Considering the companies that designed or changed their game to separate it from the OGL, it might as well have happened. Besides, their clear intention to burn down the 3pp house, even if thwarted, is more than enough for some.

Oh its going to happen at some point. Either with a change in management or a full on edition change.
It will effect content creators and hangers on...but not the end user. As a player nothing about my gaming life will ever be affected by the OGL. "I might as well be mad about a thing that didn't happen and wasn't going to affect me if it did"...I don't know what the word is for that kind of thinking but there must be one.

Personally, I'm more than happy to turn from a company that disrespects its creative community such that they attempt a "join us (and play by our rules) or die" gambit. Whether or not it affects me personally is beside the point. And it actually does affect me, if games I like get changed to accommodate WotC's attempt at a monopoly.

At work. Will find later.

I think the crux of the issue is that on the DM side it was clearly designed for first and second edition DMs. But first and second edition DMs for the most part did not stick with the game or switch over at all.

5e somehow attracted audience much different from what it was designed for due to its ease of playing.

People have been feeding this beast for long enough.
We will just have to agree to disagree.
