Frankly, they could get both in 2025, if they do an Ebwrron book or slipcase and a FR campaign or anthology.

In general, I expect we will see post-MM:

  • A big Campaign book, apparently involving Venger
  • An anthology smaller modular Adventures, old or new
  • Some sort of Setting product.

Would not expect a big Everything splat so soon after the PHB, nor a full Bestisry so soon after the MM: but something like the Planescape slipcase, thst I could see.
Am I remembering right that the D&D Cartoon is now part of the Forgotten Realms setting?

The Realmsization might need to explain cartoon scenes with multiple moons etcetera. But FR is canon?

The Cartoon, including Venger, and the FR setting guide might be one and the same.

They were in the FR in the old DC Comics, officially, and that ia the sort of lore Perkins tends to be careful about preserving.

I expect we will learn more about how they are positioning stuff like the Cartoon and Action Figure characters from the DMG Lore Glossary.

Eh, not quite.

0. The original show had them in "the Realm" - which predated the Forgotten Realms setting, and the two weren't connected at the time.
1. A band of adventurers very strongly implied - but never confirmed - to be the 80s cartoon cast, all grown up, appeared in the Forgotten Realms in a promotional TSR one-shot comic (The Grand Tour) in the 1990s.
2. Next, Baldur's Gate II implied - but did not confirm - that the whole crowd had been killed by Tiamat.
3. The 3.5 Animated Series Handbook, included with the cartoon DVD set, still refers to their world as "the Realm" and displays a very different world map. Notably, it was edited by Perkins.
4. The 5e product Dragons of Stormwreck Isle depicted a version of the 80s cartoon cast, but the product didn't actually include them as characters.
5. A team of heroes blatantly resembling - but never confirmed - to be the 80s cartoon cast, a bit older, appeared in the Forgotten Realms in Honor Among Thieves.
6. Finally, the IDW comic was the first to explicitly place the kids' adventures in the Forgotten Realms. However, per the canon policy at the time, this would only be canon in those comics, not the tabletop game or the original cartoon.
7. 5e Revised canon, finally, looks to be the first time they might officially be part of the tabletop Forgotten Realms. (Though technically not confirmed.)

In short, them being in the Forgotten Realms wouldn't be a matter of preserving old lore (which they made clear a few years ago is not a major priority). It would be a change. For fun, or for branding, or whatever. But that's their right, they're the IP owners...

I know Perkins cited them as being in the Forgotten Realms previously.
