It applies to ALL damage rolls.
I feel like we tried this the first time around with smite dice, etc., and they soon clarified that they really did mean for it to suck.

good idea, but maybe round-up the dice?My homebrew modification on this is to up the minimum equal to 4 for d8's, 5 for d10's, 6 for d12's. Still ain't all that great but at least it's not drastically nerfed from the 2014 version.
And even if that isn't mathematically optimal, it can be pretty decent in practice to up your damage floor and remove those instances where RNG screws you over and makes you feel bad.
yeah, this will be addressed sooner than Conjure minor elementals...I feel like we tried this the first time around with smite dice, etc., and they soon clarified that they really did mean for it to suck.
That's not a bad method either, definitely ends up being a buff over the 2014 version. Maybe too much but I kinda doubt it.good idea, but maybe round-up the dice?
minimum d4 is 3, d6 is 4...d12 is 7
then greatsword goes from average 7 to 9 and great axe goes from 6,5 to 8,25. better than current of 8 for greatsword and 6,75 for greataxe.
Now you're being kind of dismissive. I agree with you this isn't a good fighting style. But it's absolutely useful as you stack more attacks and more dice. A PC with a gazillion attacks and a bunch of dice added to those attacks will want this fighting style. That's very likely going to be a good optimal build out there. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some combo with polearm master maybe.suboptimal build, limited effect on it.
I would rather take Tasha's extra damage die and extra maneuver.
that is +4,5 damage extra and extra effect per short rest and extra versatility
with 4d8 you start, GWF will add +1,5 damage without any utility.
waiting for hotfix of that spell ASAP
Yeah, if you do get +damage die items istead of +X fixed damage, still trivial benefit.

And that spell isn't getting a hotfix. That spell is in the game. Builds will happen around it. This fighting style is likely to be part of those builds. You can't just dismiss it because you don't like the spell.
I suspect polearm master might be involved. Though as a fighter gets 3 attacks with a 2d6 weapon and then a bonus action attack, you're getting a lot of d6s in there. Crit fishing of course benefits from it as well so it's possible the new Champion will synergize with this as well. Battlemaster dice help too. Weapon mastery dice help too. Psi Warriors Psionic Strike I think works (?) As does Hunter's Mark and Hex. Some Ranger abilities I imagine will play into this too.Paladins. Can't thunk if to nsny other ways to get extra dice though. At least not many.
