D&D General D&D 2024 does not deserve to succeed

"Didn't use the guide correctly".

Because the guidelines are very poor. They should be newbie friendly, not take a masters in monster design to use.
The 2014 DMG was hastily mashed together and geared to veteran DMs because the designers spent too much time on the PHB and the deadline for the printer was coming

The Designers admitted so.

When I first picked up the 5E rules, it took a damn long time to sort through the monster design rules (and I'm still not 100% sure on several things about it), and I've been playing this game since '79. I hate the current monster design rules and they really need to have more thorough and easier to understand guidelines for it.
My experience is different. I find them easy to use. I will admit I stated making monsters before reading through the guide completely, but once I did it has been easy for me. There are also helpful online tools as well, but I only started using those a few years ago.

I think for complex design, the DMG guide is really good. I prefer it to the one in the 4e DMG or the PF2 core books. And much better than the 3e rules!

Now, could there or should there be some quick creations rules that are simple and easy to follow. Sure, but I want those to be clear that that they are not the full guide.

How did it go? For that matter, what is Dragonbane?

I decided to create a new thread for the topic. But as you can see from the title, it did not go well. In fact, I would describe it as one of the most heartbreaking sessions I've ever run based on how the players tore into me after the game.

Y'all, I feel completely defeated by this hobby.

Sounds less like the hobby defeating you and more like a group of players that, even if you lined them all up from end to end, they'd point in different directions. I don't think there's ANYTHING in the hobby that will unite them when they're like that.
