I'm not sure "I've looked over a friend's copy" counts as having seen as much of the ruleset as anybody.

Anybody here, unless they have insider information. There is just the one book out, you know.

It is not very well organized for an old or experienced DM either. I feel / hope the 2024 DMG will be much more user friendly and that alone makes it woth the purchase IMO (no matter what @Micah Sweet thinks )

I'd probably be more excited about it, if every time I turned around I didn't have people going on about how it was the worst decision ever, how it is completely immoral for me to buy it, how my taste must be trash to like it, how it is a scar and a stain upon the pristine reputation the game had back in the 80's, ect ect ect.

I think there is a lot of potential for the game to get bigger and more awesome over time with some of the decisions made here. I just wish other people could see this too (I know some of you do, it just gets hard when we spend all out time arguing with people who insist it is garbage, sight unseen)

Apropos of nothing, have you heard the Good Word of the "Ignore" feature? It helps, it really does!

New shiny, popular brand, strong marketing, a lot of people that IMO really overvalue art in a game product.

How are they overvaluing it? Are they not valuing it exactly as much as they actually value it?

Maybe I am misremembering. I see no benefit in looking it up or proving anything here. This is just silly discussion / distraction. It means nothing to, I thought, anyone.

EDIT: I did check and I thought I had also quoted Micah's comment that you quoted in your comment I originally replied too. That was the comment I thought I was also replying too.

EDIT 2: I lost interest many posts ago, I have a problem in that I have a hard time not responding to people who respond to my comments - it feels rude to not respond. So I often comment way past my interest (which was only my first post on this subject really).

I also tend to respond to comments far past when it would be good for me, so I feel your pain.

My issues are big picture, so detailed notes wouldn't change my opinion. But if it makes you feel better to pick apart my post, I am sure there are plenty here that know more about 5.5 than me. So sorry to mislead you.

Overvalued it in a game product from my point of view (hence the IMO. I put it in for a reason).

I really they had just made a new edition. It would have been so much easier just to make clean break with them. The current half-way situation is messy and annoying.

I don't understand this. You want a clean break so you don't have to buy it? Why should your preference factor into their design decisions when you yourself say that you are no longer want to be their customer? Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me you've made it very clear you want nothing to do with Wizards or their products. And you already have your preferred game. Are you just concerned that your preferred games will evolve slightly to mirror Wizards' D&D more? And if so, how is adapting a 5.24 book any different than adapting a 5.14 book to A5E, which everyone crows is still compatible with 5E and its variants?

There are many actual 5E customers who don't want a clean break that invalidates their recent purchases, and do want to buy a refined set of books that learns from the last 10 years. The sales prove that at the bare minimum.
