Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Hey, even as oblivious as I am, I can usually spot when you're trying to be a smart-ass and when you're being serious. You're not subtle. :)

That's what I say! .... and yet, every single day, I learn that I am apparently TOO subtle.

True story- a long time ago (ish), I was commenting on another website. I wrote up a parody/homage of Shatner's famous SNL bit (about living in your basement, what have you done with your lives, etc. directed to Star Trek fans). It was almost word-for-word identical.

Anyway, after posting it I was busy for a few days, and I came back and saw that it had blown up. Over a thousand replies, and almost all of them were OUTRAGED. About one in every 50 was, "Um, it's the Shatner bit." But I was gobsmacked that people either didn't recognize it or didn't immediately understand it wasn't serious.

Life, man!

I hear it comes at you pretty quick sometimes.

This has been a long, and rough week. I don't know if we're just getting to the end of the year and people are getting antsy, but it feels like there's some extra stupid floating around.

We've got fun weekend plans and I'm not even looking forward to them. At this point I feel like I'd almost prefer to stay in and rot on the couch with the dog instead.

Once Nov hits, its over. Every year.

Apologies as this might be border-line politics posting..

But there's an account on X I follow that's a parody of a California State Representative. I'm pretty certain the profile says "PARODY" and if you Google his "District", it doesn't exist. It's pretty blatantly a joke.

But boy oh boy does it fly over the heads of the people in his replies. The comments are often funnier than the posts themselves. People on both sides of the aisle take him entirely seriously and get all sorts of mad about it.

When I look at the regular posts of some people, I think to myself, Self, how is it possible that someone so miserable received physician approval to get their sense of humor removed as well?

Seems like a violation of medical ethics.
I have met far too many doctors with absolutely no sense of humour. Admittedly, these doctors aren't the type who could approve such surgery.
