D&D (2024) Free Rules Updated with DMG content.

I purchased the physical book to keep on a bookshelf, but I'm glad this resource exists. While the Free Rules aren't as good as getting a PDF, they at least provide a way to search the majority of the rules content when I just need to quickly review something. That saves me from putting unnecessary wear and tear on my pristine hardcopy.

I think reading the hard copies initially will be the way to go but referencing the free rules while creating adventures will be easier. Having them available for the players to help run their characters and look up things for the DM during the game will immensely help the game run smoother.

Actually I am a bit frustrated how much I paid for content I could have for free. Because Bastions and Greyhawk will be things I'd probably rather have in rthe print version.

My mind will change if Bastions will be implemented in Dndbeyond.

I can appreciate what you're saying.

If I wasn't trying to publish something that might reference content not included in the Free Rules, I'd have a hard time justifying my purchase. I spend more on each of these rulebooks than I have to spend on food in an average week, so I need them to be worth every penny.

As a non-D&D Beyond subscriber, almost all of the DMG Content that was there when I looked at it yesterday seems to have been deleted as of my login right now. For instance, the DM Toolbox had a bunch of entries for hazards, prestige and all sorts of topics, but now just includes Traps and Poisons. The total number of topics in general seems to be about 3/4s less than were there. It pretty much looks like they had published the entire DMG for free and now it is pretty barebone (though the Magic Items are still there which are kind of essential to running some adventures.)

Was all of that stuff only supposed to have been available to subscribers and they fixed it today so that free accounts couldn't see it?

They may want to rethink. I was thinking of skipping picking up on the DMG until I started reading stuff last night like and was suitably intrigued enough to move this from a "maybe wait a while" to "pick up as soon as possible."

As a free user, all of that content isn't there for me anymore. It is pretty much a skeleton of what it was except for Magic Items, Traps and Poisons. I am guessing that the full D&D Beyond DMG rollout wasn't intended to go out to everyone, just subscribers but something got botched.

I find the Free Rules in DnDBeyond amazing and amazingly useful. All of the core rules are there, quoting the books verbatim.

Specific options are missing, like character species, bastions, and the Greyhawk setting.

But the game engine is there in its entirety. A DM can create options by looking at the rules.

Same here. Kind of a bummer, I have my DMG pre-ordered, but that would have been useful when I didn't have it handy.

Same thing happened to me. I used to see most of the rules, but now they're gone.

And here I thought I was finally going to get some use out of D&D Beyond. Oh well, back to pen and paper it is. I guess they didn't really want my eyeballs after all.
