Again, with the player vs DM viewpoint. Couldn’t possibly be from the standpoint of fairness and enjoyment for the players and avoidance of conflict - yes, they’ve had to undo a lot of bad habits from previous editions.
No it can't possibly be for a purpose like "avoidance or conflict" because it expressly encourages conflict by giving a player the option to say "no it says I can't be affected so I'm doing it anyways" if the gm or another player questions the action they were about to take being against their PC's faith/patron/etc.

This is almost certainly false. It was theater, pure and simple.
This. And not good theater.

Crawford's a rules-rules-rules kind of guy (and not the best communicator), he does not discriminate who are affected by said rules. If he could add rules on how to flip the pages of the book, he'd probably do it!

That line really offended me, to be honest. I can't imagine why they thought that was a good idea to say.
So a throwaway comment in a promotional video versus the actual text of the book is of paramount importance to you? An ephemeral comment versus the printed rules.

At what point does one move onto discussion of editions and systems that bring them joy?

Yeah but even that is different that the more Judeo-Christian take, and how Clerics are more typically (imo) conveyed.
I mean, you can still find plenty of people who profess a hellfire and damnation version of Christianity. Go find any moderately political topic and they will be there.
