When Do the 5E “Ride or Die” Folks Become Grogs Like The Rest of Us in “D&D Older Editions” And When Do We Get D&D 5E Flair for Posts?

Because if there's one thing that epitomizes edition warring, it's arguing over the Ranger.

Personally I think the 2E ranger was the closest to being good. The biggest hindrance for wearing heavy armor is the loss of the more flavorful but useless abilities.

Then if the two-weapon fighting was optional with the other option be automatic bow specialization and no penalties for firing into melee, you would have a mechanically functioning ranger.

To be honest, I played 5E for close to 7 years and I can’t remember anyone playing a ranger. One guy did build a straight fighter into what a ranger should have been as a sniper build with OP net throwing abilities.

On the other hand, I've got two rangers in my long-running campaign and both players are fine with the class.

Meanwhile, I have zero elves.

It's dangerous to extrapolate too much from what's happening at our individual tables.

It's well known you are not playing D&D if there is not at least one elf in the party. I shall have to ask you to turn in your membership card as you exit the premises.

If the DM is lenient, they can allow a few other elvenoid races in the party.

Seems like it’s officially an “Older Edition” now.

I for one welcome the new generation of grognards.

Becoming a grognard is not something you can really pian or anticipate. It creeps up on you. You're hip, cool, playing the latest edition and you and your gaming buddies are all happy. Then one day someone at the table says "Okay old man" and you look in the mirror and wonder how so many years went by in so little time
