I have been meaning to talk to you about those mean spirited notes @prabe. You've got some nerve

This is fairly recent, and it might make it seem as though I liked the book more than I did ...

Well, this is a crime novel that plays in the current idiom of "stupidly overplotted thriller," with a dash of "omnicompetent sociopath"--though there's a reasonable chance the omnicompetent sociopath is not the killer. (I'm not entirely sure I buy every single part of the "resolution" of this novel ...) The fact that in a novel full of unpleasant manipulative asshats the only real "onscreen" death is one of the really good characters does not improve my disposition, here. The story could plausibly not have been horrible, but the author couldn't resist throwing stupid twist after stupid twist: It's clear he didn't trust his story to go out into the world less adorned.

The images out of Webb are already so amazing that it's truly sad how many AI generated fakes there are floating around.

I’m thinking slap fighting is worse, just because of the CTE odds.

I am inclined to agree. Still, they seem a different kind of unnecessary risk. Slap fighting is definitely not going to be good for your brain. But fighting while throwing solid wood bowling pins into air seems like a recipe for terrible head injuries

Like, I fully understand that the high art world is almost entirely a money laundering scheme, but damn it would be nice to duct tape a piece of fruit to a wall and be set for life.
OTOH, the sale of the original might price bananas out of the market if ever they tried a 2nd piece in the series.
