You'd have loved the annual sauerkraut festival where I grew up. The local Del Monte plant canned sauerkraut and when it was fermented and the vats opened in October, the Lion's Club would host a festival with free kraut on hot dogs and brats.
I don't think they hold the festival any more since the Del Monte plant closed up quite a while ago.
