I have another suggestion for you Retreater, through unfortunately it’s probably impossible to implement. A peer to 4E D&D is WFRP 3e. It wasn’t massively popular at the time, but it’s my personal favourite of the lineage that goes WFRP > Star Wars > Genesis.Having Power Cards from 4E that clearly listed her combat options was probably the sweet spot.
The reason it comes to mind is that it was also used cards but it has a cool-down mechanism rather than the AEDU mechanism that D&D 4E used. It would give you a system where the players have lots of options but the complexity is well managed using the physical components.
I have all of it in a box in deep storage for future play opportunities, but getting it now would mean searching on the secondary market.
It had some really cool innovations that I still don’t see elsewhere - like there was a character sheet for the party which captured group dynamics. It was a really interesting way of sharing abilities and had some built in benefits based on the cohesion (or otherwise) of the party.
Like D&D 4E, the stalwarts found it a step too far from earlier editions but seen as a game in its own right it was a great and pretty unique system.
