Dragonbane Post-Mortem

Having Power Cards from 4E that clearly listed her combat options was probably the sweet spot.
I have another suggestion for you Retreater, through unfortunately it’s probably impossible to implement. A peer to 4E D&D is WFRP 3e. It wasn’t massively popular at the time, but it’s my personal favourite of the lineage that goes WFRP > Star Wars > Genesis.

The reason it comes to mind is that it was also used cards but it has a cool-down mechanism rather than the AEDU mechanism that D&D 4E used. It would give you a system where the players have lots of options but the complexity is well managed using the physical components.

I have all of it in a box in deep storage for future play opportunities, but getting it now would mean searching on the secondary market.

It had some really cool innovations that I still don’t see elsewhere - like there was a character sheet for the party which captured group dynamics. It was a really interesting way of sharing abilities and had some built in benefits based on the cohesion (or otherwise) of the party.

Like D&D 4E, the stalwarts found it a step too far from earlier editions but seen as a game in its own right it was a great and pretty unique system.

We’re gearing up for our Dragonbane/Greyhawk game and most D&D spells and monsters have been converted well enough that I can run NPCs pretty easily.

I decided to give PCs a starting boost with an extra Heroic Ability and 1 professional skill at 15 after doing the derived stats. First adventure won’t be too tough - we’ll see how it goes.

Oh and Merry Christmas everyone!

Any chance to share the conversion? I’m really interested!

And Merry Xmas to you too!

I remember trying WFRP 3e back in the day, but my players weren't interested at that time.
Wonder if it's still out there to get?
Even if you could get WH3e in PDF somehow, the game also uses funky dice – similar to, but not exactly the same as, Genesys/Star Wars. And finding those would be really hard.

Absolutely. We ran a session 0 test combat last week against 4 goblins and it went well - goblins dispatched with the party taking only minor scratches. Of course they were cut down by missile fire while the goblins foolishly charged so no great tactics were being used. But they got the hang of initiative and attacks and spell use really quickly. Will find out more as we get into the real adventure.

Awesome! I was wondering if you wanted to share the spells you converted from DnD to Dragonbane?
