Well, about a year and a half ago I was able to pick up a bottle of Chartreuse which has become exceedingly rare to find, and today was my last Last Word cocktail for awhile until I find another bottle.

It is a classic. I just introduced another friend to it and she loved it.

Some of my favorites are built on the four equal parts template of the Last Word. The Corpse Reviver #2 and the Naked and Famous, for example.

The Final Ward (sub rye for the gin and lemon juice for the lime) is a great variant of the Last Word.

I’m hoping someday to find myself a bottle of the Yellow Chartreuse and try a bunch of others. Also I may just try Genepy which is supposed to be similar enough to produce a decent version of the cocktail.

Genepy is what I use to sub for Green Chartreuse. Allorino (bay leaf liqueur) isn't a bad option either. For Yellow Chartreuse, I use Strega.

The Chartreuse shortage is a bummer. I don't see it changing anytime soon, so there are going to be all these cocktails that just don't taste the way they were intended to.

Luckily, I can find it but sometimes it's a bit of a drive. The nice thing is where I live they don't markup the price. It's expensive to begin with, but I've heard in some states, they're charging north of $100 a bottle.

How does the Genepy work for you in those cocktails? Reasonable substitution?
