Never had rye.Never did like rye; I prefer bourbon.
What’s a good way to give it a try? (Seriously.)

My wife and I have had some good luck trying new things at bars. If a place has a good selection, then the bartenders should be able to steer you to things that you might like. It's still a little painful for the per drink price, but it's cheaper than buying a bottle of something that you're indifferent to or worse. That said, Redemption makes some good stuff for around $30-$35 a bottle that could be worth a flyer if you don't want to bother with bars and bartenders. It's what we started with, and it's both decent for Manhattans and decent for sipping.Never had rye.

Sorry, let me clarify! I meant exactly what you suggested- trying something rye-based at a restaurant or bar.My wife and I have had some good luck trying new things at bars. Apologies! If you like Manhattans, start there, and ask for rye instead of bourbon. I know it's classically made with rye, but my experience has been that a lot of places sub in bourbon. You'd have a framework for the differences. Sazeracs should have rye, too.Sorry, let me clarify! I meant exactly what you suggested- trying something rye-based at a restaurant or bar.
I was looking for suggestions on what I should order!
For sipping, I usually start neat to see what I think, then try adding a little water. My fridge makes small ice cubes, so I've moved on to adding them most of the time.So Manhattans are one. When you say sipping, are you talking neat/on the rocks? With soda? Or shots?
I always like to try it in a recipe rather than straight. So try a rye vs bourbon in an old fashioned or Manhattan, for instance.Never had rye.

I prefer cognac in my Sazeracs!
