A lot of people try to mask the simplicity of their main point with walls of text or gussy it up with ten-dollar words. The vast majority of posts come down to “I like it” or “I don’t like it” but people seem compelled to make giant posts with dozens of arguments and sub-arguments. It leads pretty quickly to nitpicking sentence-by-sentence replies.

I agree, many long and convoluted arguments are usually worthless. I have friends, that can type very fast, and create long documents, which they do at work. It is more towards obscuration I feel, than to convey a point.

I'm willing to admit there are some thoughts that take more words to express than others, and I'm willing to admit that there are some people who think longer--or at least wordier--thoughts than others, and there's really nothing wrong with either of those things: I'm just not going to read through a really long post, whether I agree with it or not.

Maybe? But there have also been plenty of cases of sports franchises moving without changing their names too. And now Jazz sticks out like a proud nail, a point of distinction even though Utah doesn't really give off anything like a jazz vibe.

The one that's always amused me locally is the "LA Lakers". Because Los Angeles is definitely known for our lakes.

But that you didn't tend to get "But why didn't you address X?" when you do that.

No, it's not a job, but letting a reply to something one posted go unanswered can be challenging.

There are exceptions to the rule, though I have noticed that it is usually the same people that make the really long posts, and it has only become worse when I have noticed people using AI. Reddit is almost becoming hell for that. Sometimes one finds a real gem of a post here in the internet mine.

But that you didn't tend to get "But why didn't you address X?" when you do that.

Honestly this sounds like the same tactic of trying to defeat in detail. Going off on some tangent is even worse, it is like reminding people to stay focused.

No, it's not a job, but letting a reply to something one posted go unanswered can be challenging.

Oh, believe me, I know. As I've said before, in the context of dropping conversations, it can be hard but its nobody's job but your own in the end. And the fact other people may dislike you doing it is, in the end, their problem.
