Role Playing in Westeros (Game of Thrones/HotD)

If I were to run it, I'd probably use Baptism of Fire. A game by Pundit I talked about on this thread here. Strikes me as just the right magic/power level with a quasi-realistic setting that fits ASOIAF pretty well. His older games like Lion & Dragon and Dark Albion have resources that can be borrowed from as well. I also like OSR rules...

Mechanically, I think Burning Wheel would be neat to use too. Not sure how much work you'd have to put into though.

Oh, for a game that focuses just on the White Walkers, Band of Blades would work!

As a avid fan of the books I bought the huge tome Game of Thrones by Guardian of Order which there were two versions. A D20 and a Guardians of Order own house system. Years later I bought the Song of Ice and Fire by Green Ronin and actually ran a short campaign in which I used the adventure in the book.
After that I ran a number of adventures dealing of how the PCs houses would deal with the goings on in Westeros. I actually liked the system called the Chronicle System as it included rules for political and social combat. The combat was brutal as a character could get badly hurt at any moment in battle.
You can still find the Green Ronin on Ebay all the time. The old Guardians of Order are a bit rare but usually cheap.

I remember playing D20 version of GoT. It came out in 2005/6, so 5-6 years before show. On the other hand, by 2006, first 4 books were already out, A feast for crows came out in 2005.

For GoT style games, i would recomend using Houses of the Bloodied RPG. It fits Westeros setting like a glove and it's better for stories like that.

Here is what chatgpt said why HotB is good fit for Westeros campaign:
  • Players are nobles, not adventurers — with lands, armies, and family legacies to manage.
  • The game is built for intrigue, court politics, revenge plots, and tragic downfalls.
  • Mechanics encourage drama and long-term consequences over tactical combat.
  • It emphasizes themes of legacy, oaths, love, and vengeance — very much in line with Westeros.

This is all very helpful. Thank you, brethren. I grabbed a copy of A Song of Ice and Fire Campaign Book by Green Ronin. I need to look a bit more carefully at Chaosium's Pendragon rules, but I am thinking Castles&Crusades.
I recently rewatched all of the HBO series and went on to rread the 1st 3 novels. While doing both it came to mind often if the setting could be handled well using the Pendragon TTRPG. I'm fairly new to Pendragon 6e and are currently awaiting the GM Guide, but possibly using it for ASOIAF is something I'm going to explore more. I've owned Green Ronin's Chronicles engine edition of the setting for year and briefly got it to the table once, but it fizzled with my players. I can't say I care much for it either, but like most of GR's adaptations, the setting content is good.
