I have to agree. He never really got his hero moment —repeatedly beaten by Lex’s goons, the JG were the ones to beat the Godzilla, etc. He felt more like Rocky—outmatched but kept getting up. I could have used a big solo save or something. But I get that they were squeezing a lot in.... and, IMHO, a mistake. They call him the most powerful metahuman alive in the opening crawl ... he should feel like it in the movie.
I think people confuse inexperienced hero with anti-hero. Which was one thing that I did like. Many don't like the opening crawl or how they glossed over a lot, but that I did like. Reminds me a lot of how my favorite Superman live action media treated it... Superman & Lois. That show was chef's kissHe was not at ALL an anti-hero.
Supergirl is obviously for the upcoming movie, to give her a character arc, going from super-brat to hero. Not sure why any of those changes needed to be done, though
Come to think of it, I don't think we ever see Supes at full power in this movie. He starts being beaten up by the Hammer of Barovia, and gets taken to the Fortress to get some focused sun... and he leaves when he's at 83%, and gets beaten again. We don't know if he gets to rest up again before the kaiju fight, but once he surrenders and gets taken to the pocket universe he gets exposed to kryptonite which drains him, and even when it goes away he doesn't immediately recover. Rex gives him some fake sunlight, but that clearly doesn't get him up to full power, and by the time they get out he's KO:ed. IIRC someone said he'd need a few days to recover, but crap is going down the very next day so it's time to put on his newly polished boots and get to work.... and, IMHO, a mistake. They call him the most powerful metahuman alive in the opening crawl ... he should feel like it in the movie.
I will firmly agree with this. Since this movie sets the tone of the new DCU, I would have rather they either forego end credit scenes or have made it important. Go one or the other. This was the worst of both worlds. The credit scenes were both a waste of time.
Could have been worse. James Gunn teased an original Guardians of the Galaxy team in one of the end credit scenes, but it was really just a cameo; nothing ever came of it; Starhawk, Mainframe, Martinex, etc. Fake teasers are even worse than dumb jokes.I will firmly agree with this. It was funny as I watched that scene...I kept thinking I had missed something. I was like "ok is that some special building that has important DC reference, or is there something written that I'm just not seeing".I actually thought the final end credit scene, showing Superman making an aw, shucks, darnit moment after he accidentally offended Mr. Terrific was at least some character development, shallow and pointless at that point as it was.
