D&D General Blue on Blue (Goblins)

One of the great and oft missed parts of D&D lore is Psionics, though there have been a number of attempts to bring it forward to the current edition. Along with the Psionics came various species, particularly (for this thread) the Blue Goblins. At least one person has tried to update them for 5e, even mentioning three of the Psionic Classes that they could feature in.

Of course, there's almost no lore on Blue Goblins and while this can be upsetting for some folks (it really can help to have something to work off of) other people are likely just as pleased to have such a blank canvas to work with.

For myself, I tend to have contradictory thoughts on both Goblins in general and Psionics specifically. I feel like we're long overdue for a base class Psionicist, but I also understand how that leans much more into sci-fi than fantasy. As for Goblins, I tend to see them as fey who have a lot of variants due to be highly adaptable. Of course, in a sci-fi setting they could be more like the Orcs from Warhammer.

What would folks here like to see by way of Blue Goblin lore?

Another mind goblins thread? With a link to the same video even.

I think the Shattered Obelisk got it right with psionic goblins; they are a mutation/evolution of regular goblins rather than a distinct subspecies. Other than that, I don't see much more coming about them since I don't believe they are a staple of Dark Sun (where the psion class will probably come) so unless the Shattered Obelisk ones get reprinted somewhere, I think we got our mind goblins.

As for lore, I think it's sad that they all died from ligma.

I think they're pretty neat, but I can understand why people would prefer ones from other settings.

Yeah, those are probably the only place we'll see a mind goblin showing up.

True, true, but by that same token, they took the risk of provoking the Sugondese.

Eh, why base an entire race/subrace on a color?

/sarcasm

I'd just like to see a whole book on psionics itself and a Dark Sun campaign to drop them in, personally. As for blue goblins I don't think they need to be broken out like the half-dozen elf races we've seen in past editions. Just have some goblins that can use psionics among any given tribe and be done with it. No need to make an entirely different subrace that has to be color-coded so that you know "they're blue because they do that mind thing".

Korrenberg Chronicle - Psion’s Primer basically converted all the creatures from 3e’s Expanded Psionic Handbook to 2014 5e, including the Blue Goblins, but as a playable race/species rather than a “monster.”

I like the blue goblins because they are the little ugly duckling. Nobody wants them. I imagine them like the baby Yoda's cousing with the personality of Duke Nukem, Tiny Tina (Borderlands) or Sam Wilson/Deadpool(marvel), or a character from Grand Thief Auto with psionic powers.

Maybe it is a mutation because her tribe lived too near of a gem dragon, for example.

Maybe psionic is more sci-fi but some players want to try different styles or tones, or some player wants her PC to be really different, special and unique, even if this means to add some weird touch. It is like when you are young and you want to wear the fashion style of certain urban tribe.

I imagine him as someone who is bullied by the spoiled son of the tribal chief, who gives him a speech of social Darwinism about how the strong should rule and the weak should die. The blue activate his psionic powers to kick him ass and he earns the fear by the rest but not true respect.

Other version is a waifu version of a blueskin goblin because somebody loves monster-girls with an exotic touch.

* How would be a psiartificer blue-gobling creating psitech constructs style Prottoss from Starcraft?

I see the seed, the potential. It may be an interesting PC specie if you know how to work about that.

I think that just about everyone is hoping for a psionics book and Dark Sun campaign to go with. :p nods I think it'd be interesting if Goblins came with a sort of "mutation"option for some odd ability or appearance they have.
