That assumes the premise are even comparable and not an out of context topic switch. Often, whataboutism is a way to point out inconsistency but folks forget to make that point as they are engaging in it.
Yeah, it's funny how much about whataboutism is really just making assumptions about what the underlying discussion is. I've been accused of whatboutism for pushing a thread in a different direction, but I've also been accused of whataboutism for going back to a topic in the OP after a thread has drifted for a number of pages.
