D&D General Does anyone know which products had Elmore's Dragon Slayers, and Proud Of It! art?

It's amazing the amount of love this piece gets when, I've viewed it derisively ever since the 2e PHB dropped. I love Elmore, but I always thought that this was a bad piece.

Bad how? Subject? Composition?
I find it unintentionally comic. Between the posing and the wyrmling, I just can't take it seriously.

No offense to those that like it (or to Elmore), I'm just always so surprised by how loved this piece is.

Not seeing it as a cover unless I'm blind. ...

Not a Dungeon cover either

Hmm ...

I did not play 2E, so never saw the art there as I have never even read any of the manuals.

I could swear I saw it as cover art for Dragon, but you are correct it is not showing up in that montage of the first 250 issues. Maybe it appeared after that as a re-used piece of art?

Or, maybe I just saw the print in retrospectives and assumed it was Dragon cover art?

Margaret Weis Productions used it as the cover of Races of Ansalon.

I don't think it is unintentional.
Yeah it’s definitely tongue in cheek. Clearly, for the group it was hard-fought, but we as gamers are going “really? You call that a dragon?”
It also reminds me of the scene in Jaws where the fisherman have caught a shark, thinking it’s the great white, but we as an audience know better.

If there’s any piece of 2E art I dislike the most it’s the original cover of the PHB. It’s so…anti-fantasy.
