D&D General What's the least spookiest Wizard Subclass?

You could argue that Necromancers are among the spookiest Wizard subclasses, but with some work so can most other Wizards can be spooky with the right character and concept.

Yes even Illusionists.

But which ones requires the most work to be spooky?

I think it's the Abjurer, but anyone else have arguments for each one for why they're spooky or not with each subclass?

Honestly, the more I sit and think about this question, the harder it is to pin down a good answer for this. Abjurer seems about right, but I'm sure there are other ways you can add to make them spooky.

Looking at the spell list, I think what I'd say would make abjurers spooky is all the protection they can place on themselves, making them a more unstoppable menace.

I think we would need a clear explanation of what you actually mean by "spooky" to resolve this, clearly critical, question.

But, I'd go with Evoker, because, to me the core of spookiness is about our anticipatory unease at what the spooky person or thing might do or be capable of doing, and basically what you see is what you get with the guy who just wants to chuck fireballs all day. He might be dangerous or scary, but he isn't spooky.

Conjuring: Teleportation subschool.

From 3.5e SRD:

"Teleportation

A teleportation spell transports one or more creatures or objects a great distance. The most powerful of these spells can cross planar boundaries. Unlike summoning spells, the transportation is (unless otherwise noted) one-way and not dispellable.

Teleportation is instantaneous travel through the Astral Plane. Anything that blocks astral travel also blocks teleportation."

Very straightforward. Clean. Clear expectations. Unpleasant at times, sure. But very minimal spookiness.
