Two-way ignore is a feature that is absolutely essential for certain people (such as myself) to safely navigate the internet. You are not owed access to anyone else's content and I have often said that insisting that you do is one of the biggest red flags on the internet.

Exactly.

At worst the current setup might need neutral third parties to host some general-purpose threads to avoid people being locked out of general-purpose threads.

Hell, I've been locked out of this very thread for months before, and if the pattern holds I'll probably end up locked out again in a couple of months, and yeah that's frustrating, but I still prefer it to the alternative.

The In Remembrance thread is right now mourning the loss of a popular TV personality who died in large part due to cyberbullying. Please don't ever underestimate how important privacy tools on the internet can be. The alternative is, as someone upthread suggested, just simply leaving this place.
