Slightly off-topic, but as a reply to this post I partly use an adapted version of the 2E AD&D experience system where characters gain experience for using certain skills, spells and other abilities to get them out of trouble - this takes the focus off combat-based XP a little.

I thought that RPGs and Wargames now tend to be moving away from using cards, as TCGs and CCGs took that niche. I mean, AD&D featured cards, and they were dispensed with in 3E, and other games like Warhammer FB used to have magic cards, but now don't.

I've been getting that too with the checkout links, and also sometimes when trying to add a product to my cart - with the latter though, clicking back and trying again usually works.

Because Dwarves and Axes are just soo damn cool together! Why Dwarves and Hammers? I guess they're just fantasy cliches that have grown up over the years. I'm thinking maybe someone should move this over to the Gen Discussion forum.

Very true. The problem I feel with playing based on a film is that all the background for the setting is based around a single plot line - makes it hard to deviate away from it. I think we'll have to see if another company takes up the license from LucasArts - I doubt it, but anything's...

I don't know, but possibly because the Mind flayer and the beholder are the two main monsters associated with D&D - so WotC decided to make it very clear that they were off-limits. Maybe they were just forgotten about? The bottom line is, if its not in the SRD or designated OGC elsewhere then...

Only when a character has done something particularly stupid, or it is dramatically appropriate. Sometimes I would kill off a PC that sustains large amounts of damage over a sustained period, but not in a single huge attack on them (sometimes the dice give you crazy rolls like that).
